Paterson to Celebrate Hanukkah As a Community by Lighting Menorah

Paterson

By: Richard L. Smith

The Jewish Federation will join the Honorah Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh and Israel Commission in a commemorative community celebration lighting the Hanukkah Menorah at Paterson City Hall for the first time.

According to Paterson city officials, this year, the city celebrated Hanukkah for the first time from sundown Sunday, December 18, through sundown Monday, December 26.

Officials say the eight-day festival commemorates the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem after a group of Jewish warriors defeated occupying Greek armies.

It celebrates the triumph of light over darkness and spirituality over materiality.

Mayor Sayegh encourages all residents to join him and city officials in this celebration, which will begin today (Tuesday) at 11 a.m.
