The colors of Ecuador’s national flag will fly proudly over Paterson this weekend as the city comes together to honor the nation’s independence and the vibrant Ecuadorian community that calls Paterson home.

According to a statement released by Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh, the city will partner with the Raíces Ecuatorianas Foundation to host its annual Ecuadorian Flag Raising Ceremony on today, Saturday, August 9, at 12 p.m.

The celebration will take place in recognition of Ecuador’s independence from Spain, declared on August 10, 1809.

The event is a cherished tradition in Paterson, offering residents and visitors an opportunity to celebrate the history, culture, and lasting contributions of Ecuadorian-Americans to the city’s civic and cultural life.

It will feature community members, local leaders, and special guests gathering in unity to share pride in Ecuador’s rich heritage.

City officials noted that the flag raising not only commemorates a historic moment in Ecuador’s past but also highlights the strong cultural ties that continue to enrich Paterson today.
