Passenger Injured in Secaucus Crash Dies from Injuries

The passenger - identified as Leonard 52-year-old David Bowens of Newark - extricated from a van after a crash on Route 3 Wednesday afternoon, has succumbed to his injuries.

The van’s driver - identified as Daulton Banks, 52, also of Newark - who remains at Hackensack University Medical Center is said to be in stable condition, according to officials.

Officials worked through the night to repair the damaged overpass on Route 3, which has reopened today. 

Wednesday, first responders were dispatched to Route 3 for a report of a crash with entrapments. Investigation later revealed, that the crash occurred when a steel structure sitting on a flatbed truck struck the top of the Paterson Plank Road overpass, causing part of the structure to fall off and land on the van.

The two men were extricated from the van. One of the victims was taken to Jersey City Medical Center while the second victim the was flown by helicopter to Hackensack University Medical Center.

The driver of the flatbed truck was also taken to Jersey City Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. 

The tractor-trailer is said to belong to a Brooklyn company.
