Passaic River Water Search for Possible Jumper from the Clay Street Bridge in Newark

Police and rescue crews performed a search operation of the Passaic River for a person who reportedly jumped from the Clay Street Bridge overnight.

Emergency responders were called to the area of Clay Street and Passaic Avenue just before 11 p.m. after they received information from witnesses who thought they observed someone enter the river.

Police searched the vicinity of the bridge by boat while a police helicopter conducted an aerial search for the person, but crews were not able to locate the individual. Search crews found several pieces of clothing at the scene during their search according to reports.

Authorities are actively investigating.
