Passaic Man, Woman Arrested for Aggravated Assault Against Two Children

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announces the arrests of Alfredo Medina, 48 years old, and Wanda Fernandez, 30 years old, of Passaic. Mr. Medina and Ms. Fernandez were arrested on March 23, after an investigation conducted by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit.

According to county officials, Mr. Medina is charged with second-degree Aggravated Assault, third-degree Aggravated Assault, second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and two counts of Terroristic Threats.

Officials said that Ms. Fernandez is charged with second-degree Aggravated Assault, third-degree Aggravated Assault, second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

According to county officials, on February 8, the Division of Child Protection and Permanency contacted the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit with concerns for a ten-year-old child. 

Prosecutor’s Office detectives were able to interview multiple witnesses, including the ten-year-old child and a twelve-year-old child. The children reported to Prosecutor’s Office detectives that Mr. Medina and Ms. Fernandez physically assaulted them on several occasions over a four-year period at their residence in the City of Passaic.

Police said that Mr. Medina and Ms. Fernandez are currently inmates at the Passaic County Jail pending the State’s motions for pretrial detention, which will be heard before a Superior Court Judge at a later date.
