Passaic County Prosecutor’s Detective Commits Suicide

Woodland Park

Authorities announced that the man who committed suicide in his Woodland Park home yesterday was in fact a Passaic County prosecutor’s detective.

Police responded to the Grandview Avenue home after 6 p.m., for a report of a distressed male.

Despite efforts by the Woodland Park police and members of the county sheriff’s SWAT team to negotiate with Detective Sergio Mella, who worked in the prosecutor’s office since 2007, he was found suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

His death remains under investigation by the medical examiner examiner.
