Parents Seek Answers from East Orange School Officials After Child Walks Out of Elementary School

A reported incident where a child walked out of a school and later found a town over has parents seeking answers from school officials in East Orange.

Details regarding the incident were reportedly given to parents in "bits and pieces," and RLS Metro's repeated calls for general information regarding the situation were not immediately returned by East Orange School Superintendent Dr. Kevin West.

According to preliminary reports, the incident unfolded at around 4:43 p.m. on Monday when the apparent unmonitored female child, around the age of 6-year-old, wandered from the Dionne Warwick School located in the 100 block of Central Avenue sending school officials and local law enforcement in a panic mode as police vehicles raced up and down Central Avenue in their search for the child.

Newark Police ultimately located the child in an undisclosed location within their city limits a short time later.

Police officials in Newark said that the child was turned over to East Orange Police for their investigation.

Authorities in East Orange has not returned requests for public information.
