PA, NY Men Arrested in Ridgefield Park on Drug-Related Charges

Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrests of Jose Alvarado-Toro, 32, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Jonathan De Castro-Sánchez, 30, of Bronx, New York, on charges related to the distribution of drug paraphernalia.

According to police, on September 13th, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force was involved in a drug trafficking investigation during which detectives conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 2008 Buick Enclave - driven by Alvarado-Toro

on Interstate 95 South in Ridgefield Park.

A search of the vehicle revealed an empty electronically operated hidden compartment under the second row seat and resulted in the seizure of several thousand glassine envelopes commonly used to package heroin.

Alvarado-Toro and Castro-Sánchez (front seat passenger) were each charged with one count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with the Intent to Distribute or Manufacture a Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Heroin, N.J.S.A. 2C:36-3, a Fourth Degree Crime. Both men were released on their own recognizance pending a first appearance in the Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court on September 27th.

Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
