Overnight Robberies in Newark Investigated

Newark New Jersey

Two overnight robberies that happened in the city put authorities on high alert.

Police issued a "be on the look out" for a dark colored black or blue vehicle (possibly a 2004 Nissan Maxima) with a partial license plate number "OXX" wanted for an early morning armed robbery in the city's West Ward shortly before 4:30 a.m. The suspects were only described as two black males.

Shortly before 2:30 a.m. in the 600 block of North 6th Street, police were called to the area for reports of an armed robbery that occurred where the victim was reportedly approached by two black males who produced a hand gun, ordering personal possessions.  After the handing over possessions, the men began to physically assault the victim.

The suspects were described as two black males dressed in dark colored clothing who jumped out of a dark colored 4-door Honda Civic (possibly a 2001-2004) with weapons drawn.  The men took the victim's wallet, cell phone, and other personal possessions before fleeing the scene.

The victim suffered minor injuries.

It is not immediately known if the robberies are connected.
