Utility crews have since alleviated a power outage that placed thousands of homes and businesses in the dark overnight in Newark.
Electricity temporarily terminated in the North Ward communities shortly before 11 p.m. sending crews from PSEG to the scene where they checked several transformers that may have caused the outage according to preliminary reports.
Crews were able to get power back up to homes and businesses shortly after but say they are continuing to investigate the official cause of the outage.
Residents say all of Summer Avenue, Broadway, and much of the side streets were affected.
