The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has launched an active investigation following a shooting late Monday night that left at least four people injured in the city’s Roseville section.

According to preliminary information, the incident happened shortly before 11 p.m. near North 13th Street and 6th Avenue West.
Gunfire erupted in the area, sending a significant police response that reportedly included assistance from East Orange officers.

When Newark police arrived, they encountered a chaotic scene with a large and unruly crowd.
Officers discovered a male victim suffering from severe gunshot wounds and immediately requested backup. Emergency medical personnel began CPR on the victim as police worked to secure the area.
This young man was ultimately pronounced dead.
While managing the crowd and taping off the scene, officers located at least three additional victims, some of whom had been shot multiple times.
All of the injured victims were rushed to University Hospital for treatment. The extent of their conditions has not been immediately released.
During the investigation, detectives found vehicles riddled with bullet holes, indicating the shooter or shooters fired multiple rounds indiscriminately into the area.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is leading the active investigation. Authorities have not announced any arrests or identified a motive as of Monday morning.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
