Authorities in Essex County are looking into the motive behind a shooting that killed a man in a section of Irvington overnight.
According to police, at approximately 11:35 p.m., police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of 61 Melrose Avenue.
Units arrived at the scene found the unidentified, unconscious and unresponsive person suffering gunshot wounds.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office confirmed with our staff that the 23-year-old gentleman was pronounced dead a short time later. ”This is now a homicide investigation”.
Their office has taken over the investigation into the fatal shooting with Irvington Township Police Department on the assist.
No arrests have been made officials at the prosecutor's office said.
