Overnight Gunfire Erupts in Four Newark Neighborhoods; Hospital Walk-in Victim Reported

Police in Newark are investigating four separate shooting incidents in different sections of the city overnight. 

Police said in one of the shooting incidents, officers found a gunshot victim and one of the other shootings, a victim walked into University Hospital suffering a bullet wound around 11:45 p.m. 

According to police, the first instance of gunfire erupted in the area of 293 18th Avenue around 8:45 p.m.

Police say officers searched the area and found shell casings but no victims. 

At approximately 10:12 p.m.,  gunmen fired shots in the area 777 South 15th Street sending police to the scene to investigate. Upon arrival, police found shell casings but a search of the area indicated no victims. 

Police said at around just before 11:30 p.m., officers found a male shot in the stomach after responding to reports of shots fired in the area of 370 Chadwick Avenue. Police say the victim was shot near the intersection of Bergen and Scheerer. 

At approximately 11:43 p.m., gunmen fired rounds at unknown targets near South 7th Street and 12th Avenue. When officers arrived, they found shell casings but no victims. 

Police say just before 11:50 p.m., a male gunshot victim entered University Hospital suffering non-life-threatening injuries. Officials have not released where this victim was struck by gunfire at this time. 

There were no arrests reported in any of the shootings.
