An overnight crash is under investigation after it sent several vehicle occupants to an area hospital for treatment.
Glassboro police were dispatched to the intersection of South Academy Street (Rt. 637) and Lincoln Avenue for a report of a motor vehicle crash at approximately 3:03 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers located two vehicles involved. One of the vehicles - described as a silver 2010 Honda Accord - had exited the roadway, ending in a nearby tree line. All the occupants in this vehicle were all transported to area hospitals were various injuries.
The other vehicle - a 1998 grey Oldsmobile Intrepid - rested facing southbound in the northbound lane of S. Academy Street. This vehicle was occupied by three people who were all taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the Honda Accord, operated by Jeffrey Diaz, of Camden, was traveling southbound on S. Academy Street approaching the intersection with Lincoln Avenue. The Honda was being followed by two other vehicles that were with the same group of friends. Another vehicle, the Oldsmobile Intrepid, operated by Michael White, of Hollybush Gardens, was also traveling southbound on S. Academy Street approaching the area of Lincoln Avenue. The Oldsmobile attempted to pass the three vehicles illegally and struck the Honda as it attempted to make a left turn onto eastbound Lincoln Avenue. The Honda spun counterclockwise after contact and rested in the nearby tree line. The Oldsmobile was disabled after the initial impact and rested south of the intersection.
The driver of the Oldsmobile appeared to be intoxicated and was taken to the hospital where a blood sample was drawn and will be tested at the NJSP Lab.
The investigation is ongoing at this time.
