Overnight Armed Carjacking Near Newark Firehouse Results in Stabbing, Shots Fired

Police in Newark are actively searching for suspects who carjacked a person near a firehouse in the city early Saturday morning.

According to preliminary reports, the victim was returning to his vehicle when the suspects reportedly approached armed with a gun and demanded the victim's green 2003 Jeep Liberty in the vicinity of South 11th and Avon Avenue.

The victim allegedly produced a knife and slashed one of the suspects during the course of the robbery. In return, the suspects reportedly fired a shot that did not strike the victim before they made off with the vehicle according to reports.

Police were notified of a person stabbed on 14th Street, but when they arrived at the location, the victim was not found. Officers closed South 11th Street between Madison and Avon after they located shell casings from the carjacking incident.

**CORRECTION**: The victim was NOT a visitor of the nearby firehouse.

The suspects remain at-large.
