Over a Dozen Displaced in Three-Alarm Building Fire in Irvington Township

Officials are reporting about 12 adults and five children displaced in a raging three-alarm fire that destroyed a building in Irvington Township late Sunday night.

According to reports, firefighters rushed to 122 Myrtle Avenue after receiving reports of a fire that erupted around 11:05 p.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed thick smoke and heavy fire coming from a mixed-use building with a convenience store on the bottom floor and apartments on the upper level.

Officials say firefighters made entry into the small supermarket where fire engulfed the business causing severe damage.

Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control but not before flames tore through the structure and spread to a section of apartments upstairs.

After a search of the building, firefighters did not locate any injured victims.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
