Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino have announced that authorities are investigating an incident in which a woman was fatally shot in East Orange, early this morning.
According to authorities, the incident occurred at approximately 1:40 a.m. as the victim was shot, while sitting in a car on Chelsea Place.
The victim, who has been identified as Breanna Williams, 23, of Orange, was transported to University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 2:19 am, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.
This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force and the East Orange Police Department.
The investigation is active and ongoing at this time, according to Fennelly.
