One Killed in Fatal Paterson Shooting

Passaic County officials announce that on Thursday, October 1, at approximately 8:46 p.m., police officers responded to the intersection of 20th Avenue and East 29th Street in the City of Paterson in response to a report of a shooting.

Police report that, upon their arrival, the officers discovered Kelvin Mejia, 24, of Paterson, lying in the roadway with apparent gunshot wounds.

Mr. Mejia was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson where he succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced deceased.

Police report that while at the hospital, officers learned that a second victim, a 29-year-old male from Paterson, had arrived in a private vehicle with a gunshot wound and had been admitted and was undergoing surgery. The second victim remains hospitalized.

This investigation is active and ongoing. More information will be released when it becomes available.
