The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is on the scene of a shooting that killed one person and seriously wounded another this afternoon in Newark’s Vailsburg section.
West Ward police officers were dispatched to the Munn Avenue side of Vailsburg Park to investigate reports of shots fired around 6:30 p.m.
Units arrived and found two victims suffering multiple gunshot wounds at that location.
One of the males was reportedly pronounced dead shortly after the shooting.
Police say the other victim was rushed to University Hospital and is being treated for his wounds.
The suspect fled the scene and has not been captured.
This evening’s incident is the second shooting in or around a Newark park today.
