One of Four Alleged Carjackers Arrested in Newark

Authorities announce the arrest of Desmond Edwards, 29, of Newark, who is among four men wanted for a carjacking that occurred on May 31, 2017.

According to police, at approximately 3 p.m., police responded to a call of a carjacking in the area of Renner Avenue and Osborne Terrace.

Police said a 37-yeara-old man was carjacked by four males, one of whom was armed with a gun.

The suspects demanded the victim’s vehicle, cash and personal items before driving away in the victim's vehicle and a white SUV.

Detectives developed evidence that identified Desmond Edwards as a suspect in this carjacking and a warrant for his arrest was obtained.

Police took Edwards into custody yesterday on Noble Street and Meeker Avenue and charged him with Carjacking.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The investigation is continuing as the additional suspects remain at large.
