A four-vehicle crash on the westbound side of Rt. 280 in West Orange left one person dead, several injured and miles of backed up traffic.
Emergency crews responded Route 280 at mile marker 7 in West Orange at approximately 11:15 a.m., after a chain- reaction crash involving a BMW, a construction vehicle and two other undescribed cars.
According to police, a white BMW crashed into a construction vehicle, lost control and struck two other vehicles before coming to a halt.
The driver of the BMW was taken to University where he was pronounced dead. A second occupant in the BMW suffered minor injuries, according to officials.
The people in the other vehicles struck received only minor injuries.
