Fire officials in Union County are investigating a deadly house fire that broke out early Friday morning in Fanwood, claiming one life and leaving another person seriously injured.

Emergency crews were dispatched just before 1:55 a.m. to a residence in the 100 block of Kempshall Terrace after receiving reports of a fire with possible entrapment.
Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy flames coming from a two-story home and immediately began suppression efforts.

Scotch Plains firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control and entered the home to conduct a search. One person was located inside.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the neighbor who attempted to rescue the victim was rushed to St. Barnabas Medical Center’s burn unit, where they remain in serious condition.
The Union County Prosecutor’s Office has been notified, and the cause of the fire is under active investigation.

No additional information was available as of early Friday morning.
