Authorities in Plainfield are investigating a serious overnight crash that left one person dead and another injured.

The collision occurred just before 12:45 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Woodland Avenue and Rahway Road.
Police officers responding to the scene quickly requested firefighters and emergency medical personnel after discovering a heavily damaged crash involving two occupants.
According to preliminary information, one victim sustained critical, life-threatening injuries and was rushed to an area hospital for treatment.
A second occupant suffered serious injuries but was not believed to be in life-threatening condition.
Authorities later confirmed that the critically injured victim succumbed to their injuries a short time after the crash.
The cause of the collision remains under active investigation.
Officials have not yet released the identities of those involved or additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the crash.
