Police took one person into custody after they found a gun on the grounds of a Newark Public high school on Thursday evening.
A crime scene unit was called to 403 South Orange Avenue -West Side High School- at approximately 9:25 p.m. after a police officer working a detail at the school found a person with the weapon on the school grounds.
According to preliminary reports, the unidentified person was taken into custody and charged with possession of a weapon.
Police have not confirmed if the suspect is an adult or juvenile at this time.
It is not clear why the suspect was carrying the weapon in or around the school.
The incident remains under investigation.
