Old Bridge Man Was Intoxicated When he Caused Crash That Killed 19-Year-Old Woman, Police say

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief William Volkert of the Old Bridge Police Department said a man from Old Bridge has been arrested and charged with causing the death of a 19-year-old woman and injuring another in the late evening hours of May 25th.

Police say Mr. Tsytsenia, 28, of Old Bridge has been charged with vehicular homicide in the second degree, leaving the scene of an accident in the second degree, assault by auto in the fourth degree, and driving while intoxicated.

According to police, the victim, Ms. Aliza Akhtar,19, of Old Bridge was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where she was pronounced dead from the injuries she sustained from the crash. Her passenger, a 15-year old female, was also taken to the hospital and treated for her injuries.

The auto crash is being investigated by Police Officer Ronald Atlak of the Old Bridge Police Department and Detective Jonathan Berman of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation began after police were dispatched to the scene of the crash on Texas Road, near Route 9 in Old Bridge, at 11:55 pm. police said.

The investigation determined that on May 25, 2019, Tsytsenia was driving his Mercedes S550, traveling east on Texas Road. He then crossed over the double yellow lines and crashed head on into an oncoming Toyota Corolla, driven by the victim.

Both females were extricated from the vehicle and transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

Tsyternia attempted to leave the scene but was apprehended by police as he was walking away from the crash. He was taken into custody and was treated at a local hospital.

The investigation is active and is continuing.

As in the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Tsytsenia are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
