Old Bridge Man Killed Instantly After Rear-Ending Tractor Trailer on Route 9

Authorities in Middlesex County are looking into the cause of a crash that killed a man in Old Bridge Saturday. 

The early morning collision happened around 3:40 a.m. in the southbound lanes of  Route 9 at the intersection of Ferry Road. 

According to police, a tractor-trailer was stopped for a red signal light in the center lane of Route 9 and just as the light turned green, the tractor-trailer was struck from behind, at full speed, by a black 4-door BMW.  

Police say the impact caused the BMW to then cross into the northbound lanes of Route 9.   

The male driver Mr. Miguel Reis, 22, of Old Bridge, was killed instantly. There were no other passengers in Reis’ BMW, police said. 

 

The truck driver did not receive any injuries. Rt 9 in both directions were closed for investigation. NJ DOT responded to assist with the road closure and detour of traffic.  This accident remains under investigation by PO Connolly. Any witnesses are please asked to call 732-721-5600 ext 3821.
