Officer Injured in Newark Vehicle Pursuit, Suspect At Large

Late Wednesday night, a police officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries following a pursuit in Newark's South Ward.AdThe incident, which escalated just before 11:45 p.m., began when police attempted to pull over a grey Mercedes.

The chase culminated near the Lyon Avenue side of Beth Israel Hospital, where the suspect's vehicle collided with a marked police car.

The officer inside the car was quickly evaluated for injuries, thankfully determined to be non-life threatening.

Despite the collision, the driver managed to continue the escape, leading authorities into the Union County town of Hillside.

The vehicle was later discovered abandoned in the 100 block of Hillside Avenue shortly after midnight. The suspects, however, had already fled the scene and remain at large.

Newark's Major Crimes Unit and a crime scene team were promptly dispatched to assist in the ongoing investigation.

No additional injuries have been reported in connection with this incident.
