Officer Injured in Foot Pursuit of Shoeless Suspect who Ran from Traffic Stop on Newark-Irvington Border

EMS treated a Newark Police officer for non-life threatening injuries after a foot pursuit of a male who fled during a traffic stop on the border of Newark-Irvington on Friday morning.

According to preliminary reports, police patrolling in the area of Vailsburgh Park attempted to pull over a Dodge Charger at approximately 4:16 a.m.

Police say during the investigation, a male suspect who wore a yellow jacket an no shoes began to sprint away from police on Linden Avenue.

According to authorities, Irvington Police were notified and arrived at the scene to assist in the search for the suspect.

He was last observed in the area of West Grove Terrace.

The officer reportedly suffered scrapes and bruises in the area of Plymouth and South Munn Avenue but is expected to make a full recovery.

Irvington ad Newark Police Departments reportedly located the suspect's yellow jacket in the 100 block of South Munn, but there were no sightings of the shoeless male.

Police towed the vehicle for the investigation.
