Occupants Jumped to Safety to Avoid Injury During Newark House Fire

Several people jumped from a burning building to safety after fire ignited a Newark home on Wednesday night.

According to preliminary reports, firefighters responded to the 891 South 18th Street after they received calls of a fire with possible trapped occupants inside a house just before 9 p.m.

Crews arrived at the scene and began attempts to make entry into a two-story wood framed house with a balcony after they were told that there were injured victims on the second floor.

Firefighters were able to swiftly extinguished flames that were coming from the second before they searched the home for trapped occupants according to reports.

Officials on the scene were told that several residents jumped from the balcony of the burning homes to the balcony next door to avoid being burned.

Fire officials confirmed no severe injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
