NY Man Charged With Seriously Injuring Passenger in Paramus DWI Crash

Authorities in Bergen County announced the arrest of Alex Cruz, 33, of Suffern, NY.

According to officials, the arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department.

Officials say on Sunday, August 6,  at approximately 7:52 p.m., the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting a motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle in the area of the Forest Avenue entrance to Van Saun Park in Paramus.

Responding officers found a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle operated by Alex Cruz, who had lost control, causing a female passenger and Cruz to be ejected from the motorcycle.

The female passenger was transported to Hackensack University Hospital for treatment of serious bodily injuries.

Authorities say Cruz was suspected of operating his motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently placed under arrest at the scene.

As a result of the investigation, Alex Cruz was charged with third-degree assault by auto resulting in serious bodily injury while in violation of driving while intoxicated.

Cruz was also issued multiple motor vehicle summonses, including driving while intoxicated.
