NPD-1 Newark Aviation Unit Assists in High Speed Pursuit that Ends in Passaic County

Newark

Newark Police aviation unit (NPD-1) assisted in a high-speed pursuit that ended in Passaic County on Saturday night.

According to a preliminary investigation, the police helicopter hovering above the Garden Parkway in Newark's West Ward around 12:25 a.m. spotted police involved in a high-speed pursuit of a  vehicle confirmed stolen out of Fort Lee.

Reports say the blue BMW occupied by suspects wanted for felony crimes in Union and Essex counties ignored police lights and sirens and barrel through several Newark neighborhoods while NPD-1 and ground units tracked the vehicle.

The reckless driver of the vehicle touched off in about a dozen municipalities and Elizabeth Police at one point was the primary department that followed the vehicle.

Police say the pursuit ended when the suspects entered the Garden State Parkway's northbound lanes and made their way onto Route 3 - then to  Route 46 west - and NPD-1 lost the car near Valley Road in Wayne.

There were no injuries or collisions reported during the pursuit, according to police.
