Northvale Police Sergeant Charged with Theft of PBA Funds

Northvale

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of Charles J. Amorosso, 35, of Northvale, on a charge of theft.

According to Prosecutor Musella, on February 25, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office received information that Northvale Police Department Sergeant Amorosso made cash withdrawals and transferred money out of multiple PBA (Police Benevolent Association) bank accounts without authorization.

An investigation revealed that, in his role as treasurer of the PBA, Amorosso used PBA funds in excess of $75,000 for his own personal benefit.

As the result of the investigation, on April 25, Amorosso was charged with theft.

Amorosso was suspended from his duties as a police officer and is scheduled for a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack on Wednesday, May 11, at 8:30 a.m.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
