Northern New Jersey Braces for Winter Weather

New Jersey

A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. this afternoon for most of Northern New Jersey.

Forecasters expect snow accumulations will range between 2 to 5 inches with higher amounts confined to higher elevations near I-80.

Rain will gradually overspread the area from the northwest to southeast at around 6 a.m., then a quick changeover to snow is expected within an hour after the rain forecasters said.

Snow will become moderate to heavy at times, with snowfall rates of 1 inch per hour between 6 and 10 a.m., which coincides with the morning commute.

Forecasters said snow would lighten up from west to east during the late morning and gradually taper off by early afternoon.

However, lingering snow showers and snow squalls are possible later for the afternoon and evening commute forecasters said.

Use caution during your travels.
