North Plainfield Man Charged with Stabbing Neighbor

A 51-year-old North Plainfield man was arrested Monday morning after he allegedly stabbed his neighbor multiple times.

Police responded to Duer Street apartments at approximately 5:30 a.m., after the 57-year-old victim reported he had been stabbed by his neighbor.

Upon arrival, police found the man bleeding from multiple stab wounds.

The victim told police that as he walked out his apartment, his neighbor, later identified as Peter H. Gauer, suddenly stabbed him twice and left.

The victim pointed Gauer out to police as he walked away from the scene.

The victim was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

The incident remains under investigation.

Gauer was charged with aggravated assaultĀ and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

He is being held at the Somerset County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
