Good morning, New Jersey!
After a stormy Thursday that brought torrential rain and significant flooding to portions of the region, North Jersey is waking up to much calmer conditions as we close out the workweek.
It’s 71 degrees in downtown Newark early Friday, with some patchy dense fog developing across portions of North Jersey.
Elsewhere around the region, temperatures are comfortable, with Somerville and Trenton at 66 degrees, parts of Passaic County at 67, Toms River at 68 and Irvington checking in at 69 degrees.
Thursday’s storms produced a wide range of rainfall totals, with Newark receiving around 2 inches in some locations.
The heavy downpours quickly overwhelmed several flood-prone streets and caused problems in other communities across the region.
The good news is that Friday looks much better.
According to the National Weather Service, patchy fog is possible through about 8 a.m. before skies become partly sunny. Temperatures should climb to around 84 degrees.
There is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m., but widespread severe weather like Thursday’s storms is not expected at this time.
