A North Bergen police officer is facing criminal charges after an internal affairs investigation uncovered misconduct while on duty, Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello announced.
On Monday, September 15, 2025, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Internal Affairs Unit arrested 27-year-old Rasheed Siyam.
He is charged with third-degree Theft by Deception (False Impression) under New Jersey law.
Siyam was taken into custody at the Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City and later released. His initial court appearance is scheduled for September 29, 2025.
According to investigators, Siyam repeatedly returned home during his work shifts between November 2024 and May 2025, staying there well beyond his permitted meal breaks.
Authorities allege he spent more than 130 hours at home while still on duty.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office said the case remains under review.
