Non-Life Threatening Injuries Reported in Crash that Involved Light Rail Train and Car in Newark

There are non-life threatening injuries reported in a collision that involved a Newark Light Rail Train and a car a short time ago.

Emergency responders rush to the area of Rector Street and McCarter Highway (near the old Science High School building) shortly before 9 PM where a car was apparently attempting to turn onto Rector Street from the highway when the train slammed into the car, pushing it onto the tracks several feet according to on scene reports.

Firefighters extricated one person from the vehicle who suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

There were no serious injuries reported on the train.

All light rail service from Penn Station to Broad Street has been suspended.
