NJ Transit Officials Investigate Train Fire in Newark

By rlsmetro on

NJ Transit officials are looking into the cause of a fire that erupted on a train in Newark's East Ward late Saturday night.

According to a preliminary investigation, police say no passengers were on board a 'special train' headed to Morrisville Rail Yard -located just beyond Trenton- when the train's engine ignited in flames on McCarter HIghway near Wright Street around 10 p.m.

Newark firefighters arrived at the scene and swiftly knocked down the fire while Amtrak officials secured the overhead electricity during the effort.

The official cause of the fire has not been determined at this time.
