As college students in the state prepare to return to their classrooms for the upcoming fall semester, NJ TRANSIT introduces an opportunity to make their commutes more budget-friendly.
Through the widely favored Student Pass discount program, students using NJ TRANSIT's bus, rail, or light rail systems can potentially save up to 60 percent on fares.
This initiative, known as the Student Pass, has been established in collaboration with several regional colleges and universities.
NJ Transit officials said it extends a 25-percent reduction on an already-discounted monthly rail, bus, or light rail pass.
This discount can be availed when students purchase their passes using the NJ TRANSIT mobile app.
This arrangement is particularly beneficial for those who travel to and from qualifying educational institutions.
Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti, the Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Transportation and NJ TRANSIT Board Chair, highlighted the dual purpose of this program.
She emphasized that it provides students with an economical means of commuting and encourages them to embrace eco-friendly practices by choosing NJ TRANSIT.
The President & CEO of NJ TRANSIT, Kevin S. Corbett, underlined the broader impact of such initiatives.
By combining substantial savings with convenient options, NJ TRANSIT aims to support New Jersey's student community and attract new patrons, nurturing a fresh generation of public transportation users.
In addition to the advantageous 25-percent Student Pass discount, NJ TRANSIT is reintroducing the Buy 3 Months, Get 1 Month Free promotion.
“By offering substantial savings and convenient options, NJ TRANSIT is not only supporting New Jersey’s students, but also attracting new customers and fostering a new generation of transit users,” -NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin S. Corbett.
To qualify for this offer, students from partner colleges or universities should purchase a student monthly pass via the NJ TRANSIT mobile app for three consecutive months: September, October, and November of 2023.
As a reward, they will receive a complimentary December pass, which will be added to their account.
This approach aims to make commuting even more economical for students who engage with NJ TRANSIT's services.
