On Saturday evening, the NJ Transit Bergen Light Rail service in Jersey City experienced an unexpected interruption due to a shooting incident close to the railway.

Police say this disturbance, occurring just before 9:50 p.m., was initiated by police responding to a reported large-scale altercation near 226 Pacific Street.

Upon arrival, Jersey City Police found shell casings at the scene, and evidence of gunfire that had erupted during the altercation.

In response, the area was cordoned off by Jersey City Cease Fire, a unit specializing in gun violence response. Despite a thorough search of the area, no victims were discovered.

The suspension of the light rail service was a precautionary measure while police conducted their search for evidence.

The motive behind the shooting is currently under an active and ongoing investigation by the Jersey City Police Department.
