NJ State Police Arrest Man Wanted for Murder in Dominican Republic

The New Jersey State Police have arrested Felix Peguero-Mendez, 62, of West New York, N.J., for allegedly fatally shooting a woman in the Dominican Republic on February 15, 2012.

According to a statement released by police, in February 2013, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts issued an arrest warrant for Mr. Peguero-Mendez after he fled the Dominican Republic and assumed a new identity in Massachusetts.

Police officials say in December 2019, State Police detectives from the Fugitive Unit were contacted by the United States Marshals Service- District of Massachusetts and advised that Peguero-Mendez was possibly in New Jersey. An investigation revealed that Peguero-Mendez was living in Newark, N.J., but was staying at a residence in Reading, PA.

On Thursday, February 13, officials say members of the Fugitive Unit with assistance from the USMS NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force- Newark Division, USMS Eastern PA Violent Fugitive Task Force, and the Berk's County Sheriff's Office located and arrested Peguero-Mendez at the residence without incident.

Felix Peguero-Mendez was lodged in the Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia, pending extradition to the Dominican Republic.

Charges are mere accusations and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty, after allegations.
