N.J., N.Y. Ports Shutdown After Dockworkers Strike

Newark

An unexpected walkout by thousands of longshoremen caused the port terminals both in New Jersey and New York to shutdown.

According to port officials and the New York Shipping Association, it was an unexpected action and were unsure what caused it.

The walkout not only caused a shutdown of ports but major traffic delays for incoming truck traffic to enter the port.

Port Authority issued the following statement:

"As the agency that oversees the largest port complex on the East Coast, we strongly urge the ILA members to return to work immediately and resolve their differences after they return," said the Port Authority in a statement. "In the meantime, Port Authority Police are actively working to ensure public safety for all of the stakeholders at the port."
