A 36-year-old man from Carteret has been arrested after repeatedly ramming his vehicle into the entrance of the Chabad-Lubavitch World Headquarters in Brooklyn, an incident authorities are investigating as a possible hate crime.

According to information reported by ABC7, the suspect was identified as Dan Sohail, 36, of Carteret, New Jersey.
The incident occurred on January 28, 2026, at 770 Eastern Parkway in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn.
Police said Sohail drove a gray Honda sedan into the doors of the religious building multiple times, causing visible damage.
Officers were already nearby and quickly took the driver into custody without further incident.
According to a statement released by the New York City Police Department, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Authorities also confirmed that the vehicle was searched and no firearms or other weapons were found inside.
Investigators noted that the location is a well-known religious site and that the incident is being reviewed by the department’s Hate Crimes Task Force. 
At this time, police have not publicly disclosed a motive, and the investigation remains active and ongoing.
Following the arrest, the NYPD increased patrols and security around houses of worship throughout the city as a precautionary measure.
Officials continue to examine all circumstances surrounding the case as part of the ongoing investigation.
