Authorities in Atlantic County announced that on Tuesday, April 10, Muhammad Zia, 51, of Egg Harbor Township, was indicted for second-degree Witness Tampering and third-degree Terroristic Threats.
Atlantic County officials said that on June 19, 2024, it is alleged that Zia, during a court proceeding at the Atlantic County Civil Courthouse, in Atlantic City, in which Zia was a party to the proceeding, verbally threatened a witness in the proceeding in the hallway outside of the courtroom by stating, “Don’t fuck with me, I will fuck you up.”
At the time of the incident, ACPO officials say Zia was a sitting councilman in Atlantic City.
According to Atlantic County officials, the court proceeding was to determine whether Zia met the residency requirement of living in Atlantic City in order to be a councilman there.
This incident was investigated by the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office, ACPO authorities said.
Atlantic County officials said Zia is scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday, May 27.
