Lamont Truitt, 36, of Trenton, is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, first-degree carjacking, multiple weapons offenses, and being a certain person not permitted to possess a firearm.

He surrendered to Trenton police on November 16, 2025. Prosecutors have filed a motion to keep him detained pending trial.

According to investigators, Trenton police responded around 5:51 a.m. Sunday after ShotSpotter detected gunfire near Oakland Street and callers reported a woman shot in the leg.

Officers found a 25-year-old woman on the 200 block of Coolidge Avenue suffering from a gunshot wound, and she was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center.

A second report soon followed, indicating another woman had been shot multiple times by a man who fled in a silver sedan.

Detectives from the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and Trenton Police used surveillance, intelligence, and witness interviews to reconstruct the events.

Investigators determined that the victim, identified as 32-year-old Alyssia Murphy of Trenton, was sitting in a silver Toyota Camry with a friend when Truitt approached and began arguing with her.

He allegedly pulled a handgun and opened fire, wounding the 25-year-old passenger.

Murphy’s friend managed to escape, but police say Truitt then stole the Camry and drove off with Murphy inside.

About two hours later, Lower Makefield Township Police in Pennsylvania discovered the Camry near East Ferry Road and the Delaware Canal.
