Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone has announced charges against a Hillsborough Township man in connection with multiple incidents of sexual contact reported near the Rutgers University College Avenue Campus in New Brunswick.
On November 20, 2023, two female Rutgers students independently reported unsettling encounters that took place that evening, both involving inappropriate physical contact by an unknown male.
These incidents unfolded in the vicinity of Hamilton Street and College Avenue, casting a shadow of concern over the Rutgers community.
A determined investigation was promptly launched, led by Detective Sean Freeman of the New Brunswick Police Department, joined by Detective Stephanie Redline from the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.
They received invaluable support from the Rutgers Police Department in their efforts to identify the unknown male responsible for the distressing incidents.
Through their diligent work, the suspect was identified as 29-year-old Crystaljay Ecot of Hillsborough Township.
On November 21, 2023, Crystaljay Ecot was taken into custody without any resistance. He now faces two counts of fourth-degree Criminal Sexual Contact as a result of his alleged actions.
The investigation remains active and ongoing, underscoring the commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
