NJ Highway Closed After Concrete Falls from Bridge

Clifton

**UPDATE 5:35am: All Lanes are open on NJ-3**

Police closed all westbound lanes on Route 3 and detoured at Grove Street in Clifton because of concrete that fell from the Route 46 bridge over Route 3.

It happened just before 6:45 p.m. Tuesday where police responded after several 911 calls from motorists who reported seeing pieces of the bridge fall onto the highway.

The incident caused massive gridlocked delays in the area. Police opened all but the left lane of the highway after crews cleaned up the debris.

New Jersey Department Of Transportation engineers looked into the structural value of the bridge.

The cause is under investigation.
