The New Jersey Chapter of the National Haitian American Elected Officials Network (NHAEON) is speaking out strongly against a newly announced federal travel ban that includes Haiti among a list of 12 targeted nations.

According to a statement released by NHAEON’s NJ Chapter, the policy, scheduled to take effect June 9, 2025, will separate families, hinder refugees, and deepen harmful stereotypes.

The group denounced the ban as unjust and discriminatory, especially following a recent Supreme Court ruling that revoked temporary protections for Haitian nationals under humanitarian parole.

East Orange Mayor Ted R. Green also condemned the measure, stating that such a sweeping policy punishes entire populations rather than promoting true national security.

“Haitian Americans are vital members of our communities, and any action that seeks to criminalize identity undermines our values,” Green said in a statement.

He reaffirmed his support for Haitian residents and called for the policy’s reversal.

Both NHAEON and Mayor Green urged federal leaders to reject the travel ban and protect the dignity and rights of all immigrant communities.
