NJ Fugitive Wanted for Attempted Murder Arrested in Pennsylvania

Somerset County authorities announced the arrest of Cristobal Avila, 32, Fairview Avenue, North Plainfield, who was the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Fugitive of the Month for September 2023.

According to officials, Avila was wanted from Somerset County for five counts of 1st-degree Attempted Murder, 2nd-degree Unlawful Possession of Weapon, and 2nd-degree Certain Person Not to Have Weapons.

Prosecutor McDonald stated that on Saturday, September 30, Cristobal Avila was arrested by the Easton, PA, Police Department during a motor vehicle stop, where he produced a false government identification to police officers.

Once arrested, Easton Police Department contacted the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office regarding the active fugitive warrants in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), which were confirmed.

According to Prosecutor McDonald, detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Fugitive Unit will extradite defendant Avila to New Jersey at the completion of his criminal charges in Pennsylvania and extradition proceedings.

 Avila will remain lodged in Pennsylvania pending a sentencing hearing in that matter.
