NJ Department of Child Protection, Permanency Notified of Violent Assault on Newark East Ward Boy

Authorities in Newark are actively investigating a violent assault of a child in Newark’s Ironbound section on Wednesday night. 

According to a statement released by Newark Police officials, at approximately 10:35 p.m., police responded to a residence in the area of Nichols Street near Jefferson Street on a call of domestic violence.

Officials said Newark Officers observed a 9-year-old boy who had been injured.

The unidentified child was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is reportedly in stable condition.

Officials said a man inside the residence was taken into custody and charged with the assault. 

The Department of Child Protection and Permanency was notified, and this incident remains under investigation according to police.
